Montenegro's Beautiful Coastal Destinations!
On one hand, the untamed Lustica Peninsula with its secluded coves and iridescent blue seas is the least developed part of the Montenegrin coast. Once home to pirates and smugglers, today Lustica is a large swath of pristine Mediterranean countryside, the shore line dotted with undeveloped bays and coves.
On the other hand Tivat is fast becoming one of the Mediterranean’s most talked about tourism destinations thanks to Porto Montenegro – a luxury marina with berths big enough to accommodate the world’s largest private yachts.
BokaKotorska, or Kotor Bay, is a place of stunning natural beauty – a vast butterfly shaped expanse of water surrounded by breath-taking mountain scenery. BokaKotorska is remarkable for its wonderful coastal scenery and the many pretty villages and towns that dot the shoreline. Long before it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979, the bay has been a magnet for sailors, traders and sightseers alike.
Kotor Old Town
At the head of the bay lies the old city of Kotor, one of the most exquisitely preserved medieval centres in the Mediterranean. Narrow alleyways open out onto piazzas, churches and palaces. The awe-inspiring twelfth-century city walls climb 200 metres up the sheer mountain face and form an impressive backdrop to Kotor’s annual Venetian carnival.
Meanwhile the beautiful heritagelisted village of Perast is littered with the palaces of seventeenth-century Venetian merchants, each vying for the best view over the bay to the beautiful island monastery of St. George and the floating church of Our Lady of the Rocks.
Located at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor and at the foot of Mount Orjen, this bustling little town has a host of architectural delights to show for the many occupations the town has endured over the last 700 years. The highlight is the magical, Italianate “stari grad”, or old town, though after a day here you will soon realise why it is known as the ‘town of steps’! Herceg Novi boasts a lively nightlife, so whether you want to sit by the sea in one of the many restaurants or dance the night away, Herceg Novi has something for everyone.
Herceg Novi - Blue Caves and Mamula
Amongst the many unique experiences available in Montenegro, more specifically the Herceg Novi Riviera is a boat trip with a very blue twist. Your starting point is on the Herceg Novi waterfront promenade where the many boat operators and ready to book you on a trip you won’t forget. Along the way you will visit the infamous Mamula prison island, used in operation during the second world war and swin in the mystical Montenegro Blue Grotto. THis tour Departs around 9am every morning over the summer.
The BudvaRiveria is one of the most beautiful and lively parts of Montenegro. The coast boasts some of the Mediterranean’s finest beaches – wide sandy bays, punctuated by rocky outcrops and romantic hidden coves. Budva itself has fantastic restaurants and nightlife, as well as an historic old town dating from the Venetian-era. But this is not just a place of outstanding natural beauty – there’s plenty of glamour to enjoy too. Budva Town buzzes with nightlife and fantastic restaurants that are full of atmosphere.
Nowhere sums up the Budva Riviera better than postcard-perfect Sveti Stefan, the hamlet of oldstone houses perched on a rock and connected to the mainland by a sandy spit. Once favoured by stars such as Sophia Loren and Elizabeth Taylor, the hotel is quickly regaining its cache as the place to be seen.
